About CL Learning Labs
Real Thinking. Real Mastery.
CL Learning Labs builds systems that strengthen human thinking in an AI world.
We believe the central challenge in education today is not access to information. It is helping students develop real cognitive abilities when tools exist that can bypass thinking entirely.
Our platforms are designed to deepen reasoning, build confidence, and strengthen intellectual independence. AI assists the learning process. It does not perform it.
We believe schools should remain deeply human places. AI should be a partner in learning, not a substitute for thinking. CL Learning Labs is committed to building tools that strengthen trust, reasoning, and teacher-guided learning, and to keeping AI narrow, transparent, and in service of real intellectual work.
Built by a teacher
CL Learning Labs was created by a veteran high school teacher with more than 25 years of classroom experience in Brooklyn, New York and Burlington, Vermont.
After decades in the classroom and firsthand experience with how students learn, struggle, and grow, the goal is simple: build tools that genuinely help teachers strengthen student thinking in the age of artificial intelligence.
What is Coach Engine?
Coach Engine is the learning platform that powers CL Learning Labs. It combines adaptive practice, AI coaching feedback, and structured analytics to help students build genuine understanding, and to help teachers see exactly where their students are.
The platform is built around a simple loop: students practice, the system captures learning signals, and teachers receive actionable insight about what to do next. Teachers decide. The system supports their judgment. It never replaces it.
Cognitive Strength Principles
Every feature we build is evaluated against these principles:
- Thinking cannot be outsourced. AI may assist learning, but the core cognitive work, including reasoning, interpreting, and judging, must remain with the student.
- Struggle is part of learning. Productive intellectual effort should be preserved, not designed away.
- Correctness is not understanding. Right answers without reasoning are not evidence of learning. The system should distinguish superficial correctness from genuine comprehension.
- AI should amplify human judgment. AI supports teachers and learners. It does not replace teacher judgment or student agency.
- Confidence is a cognitive skill. Students should develop trust in their own ability to think, reason, and form judgments.
- Deep learning requires feedback loops. Learning improves through rapid cycles of attempt, feedback, revision, and retry.
- Education prepares minds, not jobs. We prioritize durable human capabilities: reasoning, interpretation, communication, ethical thinking, and curiosity.
Teachers are central
AI does not replace instruction. Teachers set the curriculum, deliver lessons, and build relationships. Our platform handles the part that is hardest to do at scale: giving every student intelligent, adaptive practice with immediate feedback, and giving every teacher clear visibility into how their students are learning.
What guides our design
- Real thinking matters. AI should support learning, not replace it.
- Durable understanding matters more than smooth performance.
- Teachers remain central to every decision the platform makes.
- Classroom life should stay deeply human, with AI in a supporting role.
