A clear way forward

Know what to work on next

You might know a topic well but struggle to explain it in writing, or find that a few details haven’t stuck. Coach helps you see where you need practice and gives you a place to do it.

01

Get to know the history

Each topic combines a video overview and focused reading, with historical sources at selected points to help you connect the details to larger developments.

02

Check what you understand

Check your understanding, practice multiple-choice questions, and see explanations that help you learn from mistakes.

03

Practice explaining your ideas

At the end of each unit, a longer quiz and an AP writing task give you a chance to bring the ideas together, review feedback, and decide what needs another look.

For students & families

What families should know about Coach

Before your student joins, you should have a clear picture of the help Coach offers, where AI is involved, and what happens to their work. Mark’s letter is a good place to start.

Ask us a question
Mark Cline LuceyFounder, CL Learning Labs26 years teaching world history
FROM THE TEACHER WHO CREATED COACHA note from CL Learning Labs

Dear students and families,

I spent 26 years teaching world history to high school students, first in Brooklyn and then in Vermont. I started CL Learning Labs because I wanted students to have more of the kind of help a good teacher gives in person: someone who can help them get unstuck, ask a useful question, and show them what to work on next, while leaving the thinking and writing to them.

That’s the idea behind Coach. In this AP World History course, students can study for the exam, check their understanding, practice questions, and work on historical writing. Coach can offer a hint while a student is drafting or feedback on a draft they choose to submit for review. It should help students build the skills to work more independently, not write an essay for them. Its feedback, including any estimated AP rubric score, is practice guidance. It isn’t an official AP score, and it can be wrong.

I also want you to know where AI fits. When a student chooses to ask Coach for help or requests a writing review, AI helps to generate that response. The AI service receives information relevant to the request, which may include the student’s specific question, writing, assignment, course materials, and recent coaching messages. The student decides whether to use that help and what to change in their own work.

Coach saves work and progress so a student can leave and come back. A student’s writing is not automatically shared with a parent, teacher, or me. People and providers who operate or support the service may need limited access to stored information for those purposes. We DO NOT sell student data or use it for targeted advertising.

If your student is a minor, a parent or guardian needs to review the family information and accept before the student can create an account. Please read the privacy and beta details alongside this letter before deciding. They will explain what we save, how long we keep it, how students can download their work or request deletion, and how to reach us with a question. You should have a clear answer to those things before you say yes.

I hope Coach feels like a useful place to practice, make mistakes, and get better. I also hope you’ll tell us when something is confusing or falls short. That feedback will help us make this better for students.

When does Coach use AI?

AI responds when a student asks for drafting help or requests a writing review. It may use the student’s question, draft, assignment, relevant course materials, and recent coaching messages. Later reviews can also use the previously reviewed draft and feedback.

AI help is optional. The student decides what to write and revise. No generated text is inserted into the draft. Feedback and optional rubric scores are practice guidance, not official AP scores, and can be wrong.

What is saved, and who can see it?

Coach saves learning progress, answers, writing, and coaching conversations so the student can return to them. Student writing is not automatically shared with a parent, teacher, or the founder.

Authorized people and providers may need access to operate or support the service. We do not sell student data or use it for targeted advertising. Parent approval does not automatically grant access to the student’s drafts.

Can students download or delete their work?

The course includes tools to download saved work and request deletion. Contact support@cllearninglabs.com with questions about your saved information.

Who can use Coach, and what will it cost?

Coach is designed for students age 13 or older in the United States and Canada, with parent or guardian acceptance for minors. Canadian enrollment uses province-specific adult ages of 18 or 19.

First 30 students: free

The first 30 eligible students to finish account setup and required verification receive free access through May 31, 2027. No card is needed, and there is no automatic paid subscription afterward.

Availability is confirmed when account setup is complete. Starting signup does not reserve a free place.

If your account does not receive complimentary access, a parent or adult learner can enter a card to start a 30-day free trial. No charge is made during the trial. After 30 days, the subscription is $12 per month (USD) for one student unless canceled. Cancel during the trial and the saved card is removed without a charge. Any complimentary access will be confirmed after signup.

How do cancellation, payment problems, and refunds work?

Cancellation. You can cancel anytime. Course access continues through the period you’ve already paid for, and your subscription won’t renew.

Payment problems. If a renewal payment fails, you’ll have seven days to update your payment information before course access pauses. Your saved work stays intact and available to download under the course’s retention policy.

Refund questions. If you notice an accidental or duplicate charge, email support@cllearninglabs.com. We review refund requests individually.

If your account receives complimentary access, no card is needed. Otherwise, an adult learner or approved parent enters a card to begin a 30-day free trial. No charge is made during those 30 days. After that, the subscription is $12 USD per month unless canceled. Cancel during the trial and the card saved for this student subscription is removed without a charge. Stripe may retain records required for legal or security purposes.

A parent or guardian manages payment for a student below the adult age in their province or country (18 in the United States; 18 or 19 in Canada). Managing payment does not give access to the student’s writing. Creating an account or giving parent permission does not start a trial or paid subscription.

Does Coach replace a class or guarantee a score?

Coach is a place for independent study and practice. Use it alongside your class, textbook, or other learning resources. It does not award school credit or guarantee an AP exam score.

Rubric estimates are optional practice feedback about a particular draft. They are not a promise of how an AP examiner will score an essay.

What happens when a student watches a video?

Optional lesson videos use YouTube. Choosing to play or open a video connects to YouTube, which receives connection information under its own privacy policy. Coach does not send the student’s writing or account details to the video player.
