AP World privacy and account information

Coach for AP World helps students study, practice questions, and work on historical writing. It is currently intended for students age 13 and older in the United States and Canada. Students under 18 need parent or guardian permission before creating their account. In British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon, Canadian students under 19 need that permission.

To set up an account, we ask for a preferred name, email address, age band, and country, plus province or territory for Canadian residents. For a student who needs guardian permission, we also ask for a different parent or guardian email address. The parent reviews the information and gives permission first. The student then receives a separate link to choose their own password. Parent permission does not give access to the student's writing or start a paid subscription.

Coach saves lesson progress, answers, writing, meaningful revisions, and coaching conversations so students can return to their work. We also keep account verification, permission, and access records needed to operate the service. We do not sell student data or use it for targeted advertising.

AI support is optional. When a student asks Coach for help or requests a writing review, relevant information is sent to the AI service. This can include the student's question, draft, assignment, course materials, rubric, and recent coaching messages. Coach can make mistakes. Its feedback and optional estimated rubric scores are practice guidance, not official AP scores. Students decide what to write and what to change; Coach does not insert writing into their submissions.

Writing is not automatically shared with a parent, teacher, or the founder. Authorized people and service providers may need limited access to operate, protect, or support the service. Optional videos connect to YouTube when the student chooses to watch them. Payment information is entered in Stripe's hosted checkout; Coach does not receive card numbers.

Students can download their saved work from My course data. They can close a course early or request deletion of its records. Course closure and payment cancellation are different actions: closing a course does not cancel a subscription, and canceling a subscription does not delete saved work. Families should use the billing controls to stop future charges.

Information for Canadian families

Coach is operated by CL Learning Labs in the United States. Account details and saved coursework are processed outside Canada, including in the United States, using the providers listed below. Information may be subject to the laws of the countries where those providers process it. Optional AI support shares only information relevant to the student's request; a student can study without requesting AI coaching.

A Canadian province or territory and an age band help determine account and guardian requirements. We do not ask for an exact birth date or street address just to decide enrollment eligibility. We save pending signup information before guardian approval so we can deliver and manage the request. Parent approval does not give access to private coursework.

For access, correction, withdrawal of permission or deletion requests, contact support@cllearninglabs.com. We explain any identity verification or records we need to retain. Withdrawing permission may affect our ability to provide the account; canceling paid renewal is a separate billing action. Prices are in U.S. dollars. A card provider may apply currency conversion or other fees. Contact us if you need help understanding the information before enrolling.

Saved work and deletion

Course records, including writing, answers, revisions, and saved coaching feedback, are kept for 24 months after the course ends or the student closes it early. The course ends on June 30 of its exam year; the end of paid or complimentary access can be earlier. Students can download their retained work from My course data. If a student requests earlier deletion, course records are scheduled for removal within 30 days. Cleanup can begin in the final 24 hours of that period, so students should download anything they want to keep before then.

Closing the whole account is a separate request to support. We verify the requester's authority, offer an export, and resolve course deletion and any remaining billing first. In Coach's application database, account, guardian-permission, and billing records are scheduled for deletion 90 days after account closure. Canceling a subscription alone does not close the account or delete coursework.

Recovery copies and service records

Deletion from the active service and removal from recovery copies happen separately. Managed backups follow a schedule designed to age deleted information out within 90 additional days. Minimal deletion-tracking identifiers contain no student writing. They are kept for at least 90 days after the records are deleted, and longer if recovery checks have not yet confirmed that older copies cannot restore those records. After the identifiers are removed, the private recovery register can retain its own recovery copies for three additional days.

Unused signup links expire after 24 hours. Expired pending signups are removed by daily maintenance; signup-abuse records enter daily cleanup after seven days. A link expiring does not mean its record has already been deleted. If a maintenance check fails, the system stops that cleanup operation for investigation rather than deleting uncertain records.

Services that help operate Coach

Render hosts the application and its recovery storage. OpenAI provides requested AI coaching, Google provides account-email delivery, and Stripe handles payments. YouTube is used only when a student chooses to load a video. Each receives the information needed for its role. Provider-held delivery, security, and financial records are separate from Coach's application records; we do not promise that deleting a Coach account immediately erases every provider record.
